Shop coastal gear with confidence

  • These terms apply when you use the website or buy sea fishing tackle, crabbing kits, seafood tools, food smoking kit, coastal home decor, gifts, marine essentials, maps, guides, and other Down The Cove products.
  • Orders are accepted once confirmed and dispatched, with availability, pricing, delivery options, and payment checks handled clearly before or during checkout.
  • By ordering age-restricted items such as filleting knives, you confirm you are 18 or over.
  • Eligible goods can be returned free of charge within 30 days when requested through the order portal and returned unused, complete, in as-new condition, and in the original packaging where possible.
  • Nothing in these terms removes the statutory consumer rights you have under UK law.

Account & Website Use

You may browse Down The Cove without an account, but some features such as order history, returns, subscriptions, wishlists, wholesale, affiliate access, and support requests may require sign-in.

Please keep your account details accurate and secure. You are responsible for activity on your account unless it happened because of something we failed to do.

Please use the website lawfully and respectfully. We may pause access, cancel orders, or remove content where we reasonably believe there is fraud, misuse, abuse of promotions, attempted interference with the site, or activity that could harm customers, staff, partners, or the business.

Order Acceptance & Availability

After you place an order, we may send an acknowledgement so you know the request has reached us. Acceptance normally happens when the order is confirmed and prepared for dispatch.

All products are subject to availability. If an item is unavailable, delayed, restricted, or no longer suitable to supply, we will contact you and either suggest a sensible alternative, adjust the order with your agreement, or refund the affected item.

We reserve the right to refuse or cancel an order before dispatch where there is a stock issue, payment issue, delivery restriction, obvious pricing or description error, age-restricted product concern, suspected fraud, or another reasonable operational reason.

Product Information Accuracy

We work hard to keep product descriptions, images, dimensions, colours, specifications, stock status, delivery notes, guides, and collection pages accurate and useful.

Because screens, supplier updates, packaging, batches, natural materials, and product improvements can vary, small differences may occur. If a detail is critical for a gift, fitting, technique, trip, smoker, or seafood preparation job, contact us before ordering and we will check it for you.

Knowledge hub content, fishing guidance, recipes, and coastal advice are provided as practical information, not as professional safety, medical, legal, navigation, or environmental advice.

Pricing Errors

Prices are shown in GBP and include VAT where applicable unless clearly stated otherwise. Delivery charges, surcharges, and international quotes are shown separately before payment where they apply.

If a price, offer, delivery charge, or product bundle is clearly wrong, we may contact you before accepting the order. If the order has already been placed, we may cancel and refund it, or ask whether you would like to continue at the correct price.

We will always try to handle pricing errors plainly and fairly, without making the customer feel at fault for an obvious website or data mistake.

Payment Terms

Payment is taken through our secure checkout. Card and wallet payments are handled by Stripe, and Down The Cove does not store full card details.

Your order may not be dispatched until payment has been authorised and any necessary verification checks are complete.

If a payment fails, is reversed, is disputed, or appears unusual, we may contact you, request further information, cancel the order, or delay dispatch while we make reasonable checks.

Promotional Codes & Offers

Promotional codes, affiliate discounts, member offers, sale prices, and bundle offers are subject to the conditions shown with the offer.

Offers may be limited by product, category, customer type, date, stock, minimum spend, delivery destination, or one use per customer. Codes cannot normally be exchanged for cash, added after an order is placed, or combined unless we say so.

We may amend, withdraw, or refuse a promotion where it has expired, been used incorrectly, been published in error, or is being abused.

Fraud Prevention & Order Verification

To protect customers and the business, we may run reasonable fraud prevention, payment, age, address, delivery, wholesale, affiliate, or account checks before dispatching an order or approving access to certain features.

For higher-risk orders, unusual delivery requests, age-restricted items, high-value baskets, repeated failed payments, or inconsistent account information, we may ask for extra confirmation or cancel and refund the order.

These checks are not personal. They help us keep the store safe, protect genuine customers, and avoid sending goods where there is a meaningful risk of fraud or misuse.

Delivery Estimates & Delays

Delivery options, prices, and any remote-area or large-parcel surcharges are shown before payment where checkout can calculate them. Our delivery page carries the most detailed dispatch and shipping information.

Dispatch and delivery estimates are given in good faith. They are not guaranteed unless we explicitly agree a guaranteed service with you in writing.

Delays can happen because of weather, courier capacity, address issues, customs, remote locations, bank holidays, stock checks, product restrictions, or events outside our control. If we become aware of a meaningful delay, we will try to keep you updated.

Lost / Damaged Parcels

If a parcel arrives damaged, please keep the packaging and contact us as soon as you reasonably can with your order number and clear photos of the parcel and item.

If a parcel appears lost or has stopped moving, contact us and we will investigate with the delivery provider. Please allow us time to check tracking, delivery scans, address details, and courier responses.

Where goods are confirmed lost, damaged in transit, or misdelivered through no fault of yours, we will put things right with a replacement, repair, refund, or other fair solution depending on the item and circumstances.

International Orders & Customs

We can ship many products internationally, but availability, delivery time, and cost depend on the destination, parcel size, courier options, and local import rules.

International customers are responsible for any customs duties, import taxes, brokerage fees, local charges, and compliance with local laws unless we clearly state otherwise at checkout.

Some products cannot be shipped internationally or may need extra checks. We are unable to ship knives overseas, and some food smoking, marine, map, guide, or specialist items may be restricted by destination.

Cancellation Rights (Distance Selling Regulations)

For many online purchases, UK consumers have a statutory right to cancel within 14 days of receiving goods. These rights are often still called distance selling rights, although the current rules sit under the Consumer Contracts Regulations.

Down The Cove also offers a more generous 30-day free returns window for eligible goods, provided the return is requested through the order portal and the item comes back unused, complete, in as-new condition, and in the original packaging where possible.

Some items are excluded from cancellation or return rights unless faulty, including certain personalised, perishable, sealed, hygiene-sensitive, time-sensitive, or product-specific restricted items.

Returns & Free Return Postage

Eligible goods can be returned free of charge within 30 days when the request is started through your order portal.

Please arrange the return before sending goods back so we can match it to your order and give you the right route. If you use a different service without us asking you to, we may not be able to refund that postage cost.

Returned goods should be unused, complete, in as-new condition, and in the original packaging where possible. You are responsible for looking after the goods until they reach us, so please pack them carefully.

Non-Returnable Items

Some items cannot be returned unless they are faulty, not as described, or your statutory rights say otherwise.

Non-returnable items may include tide tables, personalised or made-to-order goods, perishable goods, opened hygiene-sensitive items, products damaged through use or poor return packaging, and any item where a product page clearly explains a return restriction.

If you are unsure whether something can be returned, contact us before sending it back. We would rather check early than leave you guessing.

Refund Processing Times

Once returned goods have been received and checked, we will process the refund to the original payment method as soon as reasonably possible.

Where statutory cancellation rights apply, refunds are made within the time required by law, normally within 14 days of receiving the goods back or receiving evidence that they have been sent back.

Your bank, card provider, or payment wallet may take additional time to show the refund after we have processed it. We will email refund details when the return has been checked.

Warranty / Faulty Goods

If goods are faulty, damaged, not as described, or not fit for their normal purpose, contact us with your order number and clear details so we can help.

Depending on the issue and timing, we may offer a refund, repair, replacement, spare part, supplier check, or another remedy in line with your statutory consumer rights.

Please do not continue using an item if you believe it may be unsafe. For faults with knives, smokers, electrical accessories, sharp tools, or safety-related products, stop using the item and contact us before returning it.

Product Use & Safety Disclaimer

Many Down The Cove products are practical coastal items, including fishing tackle, crabbing kit, seafood tools, knives, food smoking equipment, marine essentials, maps, and outdoor accessories.

Please read product instructions, use items only for their intended purpose, supervise children, handle sharp or hot items carefully, and follow local rules, tide times, weather conditions, fishing regulations, and safety guidance.

We are happy to offer product advice, but responsibility for safe, lawful, and appropriate use remains with the customer once goods are supplied.

Knives & Age-Restricted Products

We cannot sell filleting knives or other age-restricted knives to anyone under 18. By placing an order for these items, you confirm you are 18 or over.

We may carry out age, identity, delivery, or order checks before dispatching age-restricted products. If we cannot complete the checks, we may cancel and refund the item.

We are unable to ship knives overseas. Please store and use knives responsibly and follow all applicable laws.

Intellectual Property Rights

The Down The Cove name, branding, website design, product copy, imagery, knowledge content, photography, graphics, and other website materials belong to Down The Cove or our licensors.

You may use the website for normal personal shopping, account, support, and information purposes. You may not copy, scrape, reproduce, sell, republish, or commercially use website content without written permission.

If you would like to feature Down The Cove content for press, partnership, affiliate, wholesale, or community use, contact us first and we will gladly point you in the right direction.

Limitation of Liability

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability where the law does not allow it, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or your statutory consumer rights.

Down The Cove is not responsible for indirect losses, business losses, loss of profit, loss of opportunity, or losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when you used the website or placed an order.

Where something goes wrong with an order, our aim is to deal with it fairly and practically through replacement, repair, refund, support, or another proportionate remedy.

Force Majeure (Events Outside Our Control)

Sometimes events outside our reasonable control affect stock, dispatch, delivery, support response times, suppliers, couriers, or website availability.

These events may include severe weather, coastal disruption, strikes, courier network issues, customs delays, power or internet failures, supplier problems, illness, accidents, legal restrictions, or wider emergencies.

If this happens, we will do what is reasonable to reduce the impact and keep customers informed, but we will not be responsible for delays or failures caused by events we could not reasonably control.

Privacy, Cookies & Data Protection

We process customer data needed to operate the shop, fulfil orders, take payment, handle delivery and returns, provide support, prevent fraud, manage accounts, and meet legal obligations.

The website uses necessary cookies and browser storage for account, cart, checkout, CMS, admin, security, and affiliate attribution features. Google Analytics is used to measure visits and ecommerce actions; advertising or remarketing tools are not configured by default.

Please read our privacy policy and cookie policy for more detail about personal data, cookies, analytics, retention, and your rights.

Statutory Consumer Rights

Nothing in these terms affects the statutory rights you have as a consumer under UK law.

If goods are faulty, not as described, not of satisfactory quality, or not fit for purpose, you may have legal rights to a refund, repair, replacement, price reduction, or other remedy depending on the circumstances.

Our 30-day free eligible returns policy is offered alongside those legal rights; it does not replace or reduce them.

Governing Law & Jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

If you are a consumer, mandatory consumer protections in the part of the UK or country where you live may still apply where the law requires that.

We hope problems can be resolved through friendly support first. If a dispute cannot be resolved, the courts with lawful jurisdiction will decide it.

Contact Information & Complaints Procedure

If you need help with an order, delivery, return, faulty item, age-restricted product, product advice, account access, privacy request, or complaint, contact Down The Cove as soon as you can.

You can call us on 01326 735017, email support@downthecove.com, or use the customer support route on the website. Please include your order number, contact details, and clear photos where they help explain the issue.

We aim to respond in a human, practical way. If something has gone wrong, we will review the details, explain the next step, and work towards a fair resolution.
