A lifeboat was stationed at Penlee Point between 1918 and 1983 when it was moved to Newlyn - it is still known as the Penlee Lifeboat.On 19th December 1981 the entire crew of the Penlee Lifeboat tragically died while attempting a rescue in hurricane winds.
